Expanded DACA Starts February 18, 2015
USCIS has announced that it will begin accepting the “Expanded DACA” applications beginning on February 18, 2015.
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) began in 2012. On November 20, 2014, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it will expand DACA to wider group of people, to include childhool arrivals who came to the United States prior to January 1, 2010, and who now any age (no age limit).
Beginning February 18, 2015, to be eligible for DACA, a person must meet the following general requirements:
1. Entered the United States before their 16th birthday;
2. Have lived in the United States continuously since at least January 1, 2010 (instead of the prior requirement of June 15, 2007);
3. Are of any age (no age limit);
4. Were physically present in the United States on June 15, 2012, did not have lawful status on that date, and are still in the United States when making the application;
5. Are currently in school, have graduated from high school or have a GED;
6. Have not been convicted of a felony, a significant misdemeanor, or 3 or more misdemeanors; and
7. Be at least 15 years old when making the application.
