New administration indicates a shift in asylum policies

Each year there are many immigrants who seek asylum in Arizona and the United States. These individuals come here with the hope of being able to leave an oppressive and/or dangerous situation in their home countries. While many people seeking asylum are allowed in the U.S. there is a process that they must follow. Many asylum seekers have to wait for their chance to come here. The last presidential administration tightened the asylum policies, but the new administration has indicated that they intend to reverse some of the previous policies.

Reviews of current asylum policies ordered

The new administration has not specifically changed any policies yet, but a task force was created to attempt to reunite children who may have been separated from their parents as part of previous policies. They also stated that there will be many reviews of the current policies and reports will be made to recommend changes to the current policies. While it is unclear what those changes will be, the rhetoric indicates that the asylum policies will be loosened.

While the policies may be loosened, asylum seekers will still need to go through a process of seeking asylum in the United States. This process starts with being able to demonstrate that they are being persecuted in their home countries because their race, religion, political opinion, nationality or because they belong to a certain social group. If people are able to demonstrate that and are allowed in, they must then file an asylum application within one year of being in the United States.

Help with seeking asylum in the United States

There are many people who seek asylum in the United States and in particular Arizona given the proximity to the Mexican border. This is not a simple process though and it involves being able to demonstrate that people are genuinely afraid of being harmed in their home country. Due to the importance of being able to stay in the United States, it is imperative that the applications are completed correctly. Experienced attorneys understand the asylum seeking process and may be able to guide one through the process.
